England in November

England in November

Dry leaves dancing in the sky
Swirling down from way up high
Kissing windows, walls and floor
Swaying branches, throaty roar
Small leaves trapped in web and tree
As I think of you and me

Rays of sunbeams from the west
Human eye put to the test
Before the autumn silver rain
Licks the skin of smooth glass pane
Pigeons soar and wheel around
Freedom gained until they are found

Leaning trunk from now tall Ash
Showering lawns of deep green grass
Scarlet chrysanthemums flower still
Beneath the creamy window sill
Reminding me of time with you
Treasured hours and seconds too

Our smiles, our walks, our lives so full
Days of summer were never dull
Abba songs and fish and chips
Gazing at your lovely lips
As you snoozed in striped deck chair
Were you really ever there?

Absolutely superb. I love the line, "Human eye put to the test". It really reminded me of how harsh the low sun can be!
