A knock came at the door

She opened the door to see him

She searched for words of comfort
But no words came to mind

He bowed his head and hit his knees

Tears rolled down her cheeks
As she started to say,
"You are the only one to whom
I've game my heart away."

She could see his pain
And she wanted to make it right,
But she was afraid if she spoke
It might reveal her fright

He stayed on his knees
His head still bowed down
Other than him crying
He made no other sound

He rose to his feet
And wrapped her in a hug
She knew that this was it
This was what they call love

Months down the road
Chemo took her hair
When it all got too much for you
He was always there

He never left her side
He stayed there with her
Then came the night he dreaded
Everything was a blur

She laid in her bed
In so much pain
Never not once
Had he heard her complain

Her eyes were all misty
But she still held a smile
While he sat there crying
Living in denial
