One year ago today

by Karl Wild GG23   Nov 13, 2006

He gets into his car
With only one destination in mind
He knows exactly where he's going
A place where death isn't hard to find

He drives out to a road
With horrifying thoughts inside
He has so many regrets
Regrets he can no longer hide

It was on that very road
Exactly one year ago today
When he lost the love of his life
When he lost his way

He remembers what his parents used to say
If your drunk never hesitate to call
No matter what time, No matter where
It's really no problem at all

They were out late at a party
He didn't call, he chose to drive
But if he would have just pushed those buttons
She'd still be alive

They climbed inside the car
She asked "are you sure your fine"?
As he started up the engine
He nodded and said "yes, I only had one bottle of wine"

As he sped around the corner
He closed his eyes a second to long
He jerked the wheel to regain control
And thats where it all went wrong

The car flipped 4 times
And slid over a hundred feet
Why did he close his eyes?
Why did he fall asleep?

It was ONLY one bottle of wine
That caused this terrifying wreck
She lost her life that night
He walked away with a sore neck

All he wanted to do
Was to tell his love he made a mistake
To tell his baby girl he was sorry
Her life he did not mean to take

He knows heaven is where she is
Because thats where angel's belong
So thats where he'll go to tell her
He's sorry and will never again do anything wrong

As he drives out to that road
And thinks about one year ago today
He knows this time things will be different
This time he WILL NOT walk away.

Very depressing and relatable (to an unfortunate some). Good writing, and I'm sorry this happened to your friends, may they both rest in peace. This is why I rarely drink, and NEVER drink and drive.
