Lady Gwen was anxious today
As she folded her crocheted shawl
Her face bore a frown as she twisted it round
As she stood near the door of the hall
Doris was calmer, she always sat down
"I don't know what I'm doing here." she cried
I'm really from Kent and always paid rent
Until an ambulance brought me inside."
Gordon was smiling, his pants hanging down
Wandering loose on the prowl
Looking for Julie his nurse and his friend
His eyes transfixed like an owl.
Denis was jittery. His dinner not there
Although he'd made the effort and come
But at the sight of the others and his table not set,
He leapt up to say,"I'm going home."
Ray was fed up. His wife had just gone.
His hands were unable to grip,
The beaker, which spilled some juice on the cloth
And the rest dribbled down his bent lip.
Maggie was smiling. She sat stroking her teddy
So furry and warm and so sweet
She spoke so politely and her appearance of calm
Was such a revelation to meet.
Lizzie was quick, ate her food and was up
And so ready to help to wait on
Whilst Eric was eating, she took hold of his bowl
Of his unfinished custard and scone
Eric looked puzzled and surprised at this
An assistant cried out, “Put it back!
It’s not yours Lizzie. Eric hasn’t finished yet
It’s not yours Lizzie. Please put it back. â€
“He’s locked himself in.†(Denis they mean)
We’ll take him a tray later on.â€
You see he sleeps round the clock
And gets up at night, around about twenty past one.
