That Tragic Day

That Tragic Day
I remember it like it was yesterday
That Tragic Day

As grandmother lay there silent and still
As they fed her yet another pill
Trying to make with god a deal

If she could only stay on this earth a little longer
She thought she might get stronger

She burned from fever all that day
As still as she lay
We all knew this would be her last day
On That Tragic Day

She moved just a little
But her body was so brittle

She had a look of sadness in her eyes
From all the family lies

All she wanted was to know that her family would be OK
Then she wouldn\'t feel she had to stay
She could be with her husband Ray
On That Tragic Day

Trying to hold back tears
Trying to deny their biggest fears
She wouldn\'t be near

Finally around 5 or 5:30 it all happened nice and slow
She got that look in her face and that glow

her chest slowly stopped moving
Her last breath was a sigh
As she lay there and die

But I got to tell you that
On That Tragic Day
it was the first time i saw in a long
time
A smile on her face

She was at rest
We all knew it was best
On That Tragic Day

She lay there with a look of peace in her eyes
She was gone from a world full of lies

They all silently moved from her room to the living room

No one knew what to think or say
About the dearly beloved Lula Mae
