My Best Friend

by Hugh Coffey   Nov 15, 2006

When I was a young man, life seemed quite unfair,
I had many problems, but a true friend was there.

He was at my side, through all thick and thin.
He offered me comfort and advice now and then.

Then there came a strange day, in this story I tell,
When I felt a great pain, just like being in Hell.

They tested and checked, till they found an answer,
Then they did tell me, You have a bad cancer.

My friend, then was told, he will not live long.
My friend said that this tune, was not the right song.

He told all the doctors, a cure must be found.
He is my best friend, he must stay around.

Bad parts were removed, and a treatment begun,
They said there's small chance of saving this one.

He prayed to Saint Jude for a miracle to send.
And offered his life, if mine would not end.

Then God did look down, at this man and his friend,
And decided this life was not yet to end.

Because of this friend, I learned many a thing.
To count all the blessings that this life does bring.

You must learn from the bad to enjoy all the good.
And enjoy every second, as you know you should.

This man, now an Angel in heaven above,
Has taught me to live, and the meaning of love.

He was my Father, who's soul was most pure.
If not for his prayers, there would be no cure.

This poem is dedicated to Joe Coffey, the greatest man who ever lived.
