It\'s been five years
Five long, hard years
Mostly spent crying
She can\'t get over him.
What happened to him was so unfair
How could someone be so careless
And drive when they\'re shouldn\'t?
Getting very drunk and then getting into a car...
Nothing good can come out of that.
And nothing did.
It only took a minute for everything to happen.

The first three seconds were spent in shock
The drunk driver, shocked that he was on the wrong side of the road
The young man, shocked that he was about to get hit by a car

The next few seconds were spent in terror
The drunk driver, scared that he\'d died from the impact that was just about to happen
The young man, scared that he\'d never see his love again

The next few seconds were spent in pain
The drunk driver, hurt by the impact of the two cars hitting each other
His head thrown against the steering wheel
The young man, also hurt by the impact
His seat belt couldn\'t hold him down

He went crashing through the windshield
Flying to the ground
Hitting it, then laying there, helpless
Unable to move

His sight started fading,
As people ran out to see
Someone came to check up on him
But it was too late

Sounds started sounding far away
Screams of people, crying
Sounded like they were coming from someone above water
He was floating away, slowly floating away

Someone helped the drunk driver out of his car
He was fine enough to walk
The accident sobered him up enough
To see what he\'d done

He saw a body laying helpless
Not ten feet in front of the mess of mangled cars
He watched as a young lady, screaming and crying
Ran from her house and to the young man

It was the young man\'s girlfriend
She\'d seen the whole thing
Watched it from her bedroom window
While she\'d been waiting for her boyfriend to come pick her up

As soon as she\'d seen his car come into view
A smile had crossed her face
But then, as if life was fast-forwarded
The other car came up and hit his car
Her smiled had left, been replaced by tears

That was five years ago
And she\'s spending the anniversary of the death of her love
At his grave, placing flowers on his headstone

It\'s the middle of winter, very chilly
So she buttons up her coat
Let\'s out a sigh
Watches her white breath float away

\"Are you still there?\"
She says out loud for the millionth time
In five years
She\'d ask that every day
Hoping to hear something
A sign
From her loved one

But everyday, she\'d hear the same ol\' thing
The wind howling or
Dogs barking or
People talking and laughing...
But never a sign from her love

It\'s been five years
And she hasn\'t given up on him yet
Someday, she knows, she\'ll hear him
She just has to be patient

Five years it\'s been
She gets up from his grave
Remembering what he\'d said to her just before he\'d passed on
Floated away

\"I love you and I always will
If you ever need me
I\'ll be there, I\'ll always be around you.
Just wait for me.\"

For five years, she\'s thought about what he\'d said
Many, many times
And she\'s waited around for him
All those years

As she walks from his grave and to her car
A few tears fall from her eye
She wipes them away with a kleenex
It seems like she\'s always carrying those around these days

As she gets into the car, before she turns the key
She asks, for the million and first time,
\"Are you still there?\"
And, for the first time
In five years
She hears something, carried by the wind...
\"Yes, I\'m still here...\"
