Preordained Masquerade

by Manda   Nov 18, 2006

We traded rehearsed “I love you”s
Then kissed right on cue
Staged acts of passion
Practiced goodbyes too

Was it love?
It sure felt like it was true
Then how could we just give it up?
I can’t seem to forget you

It started out so gently
Ended in a bloody mess
Our connection shattered
For what I thought was best

How could you betray me?
Why’d I say goodbye?
What lead to our parting?
Who made who cry?

Was it really love,
If I cry alone at night?
While you kiss another,
Hold her close and tight?

Was it love?
It sure felt like it was true
Then how could we just give it up?
I can’t seem to forget you

Was it just an act?
A preordained masquerade?
When we said forever and always
A prepared two-stepped parade?

I truly loved you then
But now I’m my own prince
Cause I can’t take the blues
That went along with our I love you’s

But before I move on
Before I let it go
Tell me one thing
Was our love all for show?
