My Breath

by Manda   Nov 18, 2006

The scent of the fire that runs through your veins
Burns my heart as I inhale its concealed aroma
Leaving me yearning for the pain of you once more
I’m stranded in a world vacant of thought

Like the rain that pounds rhythmically on my chilled skin
Your words run over me like waves
Stunning with their harshness
So complex is the threatening beauty of your requisites

I am not but a lowly shadow
To the brilliance that is your piercing light
You leave me standing in the throng
As you fade in the distance, no backwards glances

I have tasted the forbidden fruit of your vine
I desire, now, only what you gave me once
Only you can quench my unending thirst
For it was you alone, who ran me dry

What, I inquire, is it you will do now
I stand here, wounds gaping, for your eyes alone
Dare you prod them with your scorching words
Or simply kiss them closed with your healing touch

Your eyes flash akin to the storm’s lightening
Two swirling pools clouded with confusion
Do you not know how to love
I was certain you knew what it was
For you showed it to me

My Breath
