MY LIFE AS A T-SHIRT

by Gary Jurechka   Nov 19, 2006

Death sits across
the table staring at me,
waiting for me to decide

I choose to do nothing
but that means
I've still made a choice

I go to my closet
to find something
to wear today

I can't decide between
my Nine Inch Nails
'The Downward Spiral/Self Destruct' t-shirt

or my Stone Roses
'I Am The Resurrection' t-shirt
-both statements of my feeling and thoughts

And all I really know is that
my memories are too young
for me to feel this old.

I love the bittersweet aftertaste of this poem. Great writing, you have some powerful ideas wrapped up in a simple message :)

What an amazing use of a metaphor! It gives such a deep meaning. And I mean, using a t-shirt as their metaphor, not many people could do what you did with this poem!

This one is brilliant, I can't find words to explain how much I like it. It leaved me speechless.
It deserves a lot more then 5/5

Thanks for the comment, Mike, but I must say I still believe, despite society-that we are always free-to be, do, feel and choose whatever our hearts tell us if we but listen.
    Peace,
    Gary
