Becoming a Man

by E J   Nov 22, 2006

When, I ask, did I last write
with words that wish to hold you tight
in the pages you will never read
in the volumes of my endless dreams?

When, I ask, did I last leave
a message you will not recieve
in a self-addressed white envelope
that I send myself to keep my hope?

When, I ask, will I reveal
the me that I can say is real
to the you that I can say I need
for the love that I would gladly bleed?

When, I ask, will I become
the man who's worthy to be called "the one"
to stand with pride and confidence
and leap over this teenage fence?

When, I ask, will this day arrive
that I can say that I'm alive
because I've grown to the extent
that love is something permanent?

When, I ask, can I wake
and do whatever it would take
through thick and thin, to hold your hand?
That is the day I become a man.
