2 years, 6 months, and 4 weeks

We've been going steady
for 2 years, 6 months and 4 weeks.
our anniversary was here and I was ready.

I wrote you a poem,
expressing how much I loved you.
I waited until we were alone to give it to you.

We stood in the empty hallway,
already late for class.
you said we needed to talk.
every part of my body started to shake.
I knew what was coming
and I felt my heart starting to break.

"we have been together for
2 years, 6 months, and 4 weeks today"
this is what you say.
I look at you with a confused look;
even though I knew what you were going to say next.
"Sorry to say, but i feel that our chemistry is starting to fade away"

You open your to say one more thing.
But i put my finger to your lips
and tell you not to say anything.
"here is the poem I wrote for you,
use it to remember me,
and how much our love was true"
I put the the poem into your hands.

You tell me to wait.
you pull out a single rose and say
"I will always love you".
we both walk away and I have tears running down my face.

One year later, I still have the rose
Dried and hung on my wall.
