Unseen dream

by Elizabeth   Nov 30, 2006

I drive my car down the road untraveled
To meet a man I\\\'d never met
hopefully this ends well.

I pull up to a house,
green lawn
cute dog,
car parked in the driveway.
All that\\\'s missing is a picket fence.

The door is red. I knock three times
he answers with a smile and a laugh.
Handsome

We sit down at the table already set.
napkins
plates
silverware
glasses
no food.

I look at him
and he looks back
with a smile
and a laugh.

It\\\'s not the same.

I find myself back in my car
driving down the road traveled
realizing that I can\\\'t change a thing
it was all in the past.
