When You Dream

Right now, I feel your heart beating through your shirt,
A steady rhythm of love, bounding upon my chest,
The calmness in your breathing, the way you hold me against you,
For a moment, maybe even the slightest second, it takes my problems away.

I see your eye lids get heavy, and you seem to know you're in the right place,
I pull you a little closer, I find your scent relaxing,
And soon, I let my guard down and I try to fall asleep with you, in your arms,
This is the way it should be, just you and me.

Soon, our breathing syncronizes, and our heart beats become one,
It feels as if our souls have intertwined, we keep each other whole,
I keep you closer than ever now, for fear that if i break us apart,
We may never be whole again.

I smile when I see you sleep, you look younger now,
You are free from all the pain you feel,
The stress has lifted, just for this moment,
You are happy when you dream.

It seems time is slowing down for us,
Just to make this moment last, I dont ever want to see it end,
I know we cannot do this forever,
But baby we can try.

Your eye lids start to flutter, soon you will awaken,
I try to hold onto this, just a second longer, because I know we do not have much time,
I kiss you on the forehead and wish you good morning,
I want what is best for you, because i cannot have the best for me.

You pull away slowly, and you roll a few feet away from me,
My heart breaks and my soul screams for you to come back, but instead, i smile,
You stand up and I see you walk away, I try to hold onto you, but it fails,
I watch you leave me alone in this place.

I know you are confused now, you have not been yourself recently,
I try do to the best I can for you, but I cannot protect you forever,
My heart breaks a little more, and with every blank stare,
I wish for this moment to return, just to last a little longer.
