The Pink Dress

by SMILEoften   Dec 2, 2006

They hold hands,
taping two worlds together.
Her dress of lace
and his jacket of leather.
Though she was five
and he was seven
when they were together
the world was heaven.

Boys had cooties,
and girls stink..
Except he made
her cheeks turn pink..
like the lace dress.

They got older
and high school hit
Not much time on hand
but they managed it.
"Don't ever leave me"
she exclaimed one day
and he answered back,
"forever, I'll stay."

When does forever end?
she did quietly think
and her eyes
slowly turned pink..
like the lace dress.

Then came adulthood
the toughest of them all
tax payers, parents
and when he received the call..
"Your wife has died"
echoed through is head
when reality struck him,
he collapsed on the bed.

He pulled out the dress
that she once wore
in his heart,
she'd opened a door.
But the pink dress had faded
and just little by little
the dress broke
and turned very brittle..
It took shape
of one giant wing
and then his heart
started to sing.
An angel, an angel!
happiness replaced fright
as the dress dissolved
and everything turned white.

An angelic presence
was there that day
and in his heart
it'll never go away..
Just like her.

I thought this was very good. Maybe a little jumpy here and there - the flow could be better, but overall this is very good. Nice imagery created from your words.
