Native American Lament

by debbylyn   Dec 3, 2006

I watched a snowflake falling
I traced it's pattern down
It landed in a fluffy pile
Already on the ground

As night came on, the snow was thick
The world was wrapped in white
As dawn came on the sun appeared
Shining, warm and bright

And as the snow before the sun
My people disappeared
Here one day, gone the next
In a trail of blood and tears
Puddles where the snow had been
An echo where we stood
If the winter snow returns again
I know my people could

Amazing!!! your words went straight to my heart!!!there was 100million native people 400 years ago...and 350 years later reduced majorly to aprox 200,000 scarey numbers...and countless horrible stories of murder and hate committed against us...but it didn break our spirits...they cant break our spirits...they never did and never will... an im happy to see my people living up to it...im glad to have read this poem thankyou from the bottem of my heart
