Mai kneels at her bedside and prays to God
For forgiveness of her sins, for protection through the night.
She knows He is listening, she knows He is there,
And she knows if her trust is put in Him, everything will be alright.
She has done this since she could talk; she is only four years old,
She is so sure of His ways, she could never be sold.

As Mai grows older, she still prays every day.
Until that is, her mommy was killed and taken away.
The drunk driver hit her as she was crossing the road,
And because of this, Mai’s heart has turned cold.
If God existed, how could he do such a thing?
She lived for Him; she never once had a doubt,
But He abandoned her, and all of His presence has been blocked out.

From there, all of her life has gone downhill,
She has stolen, she has sinned, and she has no remorse.
She thinks she is living life to its fullest thrill,
But soon she will learn that God’s way is the only right course.

Drugs, alcohol, and sex, that is all her life has,
She sits drunken on the street, that is her home,
Her husband kicked her out, he found her too bothersome.
She is going to die, she has overdosed on crack.
She misses her old life, she wants to go back.
But she doesn’t think that God will forgive her, she has done so much wrong,
Little does she know that He still loves her, He has all along.

She curls up in a ball and prays to God,
For forgiveness of her sins, for protection and care
She knows He is listening, she can feel Him there,
She puts all her trust in Him; she knows she will be fine,
With her last ounce of strength she ends her prayer,
“Oh God, please spare me, give me a sign if You’re there.”

Just when everything almost went to black,
A man from the church saves her from death’s attack.
He takes her to the hospital; her life has been spared,
This is how God showed her that He still truly cared.

Three years later, Mai teaches Sunday school.
Emily, one of her students, has lived a life that has seen all that is cruel
At a young age, Emily was beaten and raped,
But somehow, she has denied the devil, she has escaped.
Emily is an orphan, but she knows everything will be alright,
She knows God loves her, and that He listens to her prayers every night.
Emily prays for a family she prays for a home.
Mai prays for a family, she doesn’t want to be alone.
God hears them and answers; he brings them to one another.
Mai adopts Emily, they become daughter and mother.
And God is their father, they know He is there,
Because through all they have went through, He has answered all their prayers.
