Death as a Pause, That Stops Us Where We'd Go

by sibyllene   Dec 5, 2006

Even after eulogies -
praying hard
on swollen knees-
After hope has passed away-
still the morning brings
the day-
When our pleas are
buried
low-
still we bargain...

still they go.

Sijo is a poetry type consisting of 3 lines. Each line contains 14-16 syllables each.

(mine is an altered Sijo that breaks up the lines)

A pause breaks each line in the middle. The last half of the final line is usually shorter than the rest, and contains no fewer than 5 syllables.

The first line introduces a problem, the second develops it, and the third is a resolution.
