Pass on by

by Bethan   Dec 5, 2006

We mindlessly scurry and scuttle,
To work, To home, To bed,
Never thinking what it is,
That we could be doing instead,

We walk along the same streets,
Everyday, we pass the same faces,
Not stopping to notice anything,
Different about these places,

Shop signs may change or move,
The man selling papers might die,
It doesn't affect us directly,
so we simply pass on by,

The daily grind of paperwork,
The coffee you never drink,
The row over the photocopier,
And whose dirty dishes are in the sink,

Then there's the staff meeting,
With the manager that you hate,
Being patronised and victimised,
Isn't this career thing great?

But what if tomorrow you think,
You left it all behind,
You took a walk to nowhere,
To see what you might find,

Tomorrow you'll stop existing,
Living life you think you'll try,
And start to love it all,
Before life passes you by.

I really like this one. I think people get to caught up in everyday life that sometimes they let the most important things pass them by. Another well done poem from you!

This is just another one of your excellent poems. It is so true that we all are guilty of falling into the daily grind. I agree that we need to change things up before life passes us by.

Rather thought provoking. A very good piece, as usual. My favorite line was 'Isn't this career thing great?'. Another well written poem in every aspect.
