Those Last Words

by geeeeee   Dec 9, 2006

Smudged mascara, red eyes
Her hair a bloody mess
He whispered into her ear
Things could get better yet
As he held her in his arms
He said just one more thing
Every day that has passed us by
I have loved you unconditionally
And they lay there for hours on end
As her eyes filled up with tears
And she began to reminisce
Of the memories over the years
He softly held onto her hand
And she lay her head on his chest
Listening to his weak heartbeat
Saying "These years have been my
best"
And she quietly prayed to God
Asked that he take care of him
Forgive him for the many mistakes hes made
Forgive him for his sins
She sadly accepted that it was,
Time to let him go
And she knew she had to walk,
The journey of heartbreak alone
She knew he'd be in a better place
She thought, free of the pain that holds you to me
Our love can never be broken
As long as I hold onto my dreams
His breaths became more slower
His heartbeat more faint and weak
She took hold of his hand
The time had come, it was hard to believe
She whispered into his ear
"I love you with all my heart"
I know that this is not goodbye
We will meet again, my love
She kissed him on his soft lips
Felt for his heartbeat
She could not feel one
So she lay there for hours beside him
While tears rolled down her cheek...
