Broken Requiem

by Alex   Dec 10, 2006

The rain is pouring and will not stop
Sounds of mourning ensue
Ink drips down in a rhythmic way
The sheet music is all wet and strewn

Violin strings are split
But still the tones will play
Heaven in her ears she wishes
Will stay with her all day

The laments echo over the crowd
Ghostly spectres as they may be
Each lapse bringing them farther down
To the orchestrated death

A shell pent up and broken
Lapping in the memories
Secretive diaries left so someday
Someone will know what they say

Locks of hair fall over her dismal eyes
A feeble attempt to hide the pain
Withered rose petals and a torn dress
Ache of heartbreak still on her breath

Her faint pulse excites at every note
Pulling her closer to him she knows
He will soon be here to lift her
And make things clear once more

But the promises are broken
The scars that would heal and fade
Are seen by her as plain as day
Downcast features reminisce

Eye liner stains her eyes
Blood flecked on her pale cheeks
Now she is empty and used up
She made sure you could take nothing

Blood, tears, heart, all
He reels back at the terrible truth
To endure her suffering briefly
But a second is an eternity

The bed is empty, altar can't testify
Sleep, love, goodnight and goodbye
She whispers a reminder to his shadow
'You said I look beautiful when I cry.'
