Old Winter Lovers

by Weeping Wolf   Dec 17, 2006

The river outside has frozen over
and I fear my heart has too.
and just as every winter before
reminders of you surround me.

I remember long nights like these
when I wasn't sitting all alone
oh how morning never rushed us
I lie without sleep reminiscing
every sweet word you gave to me

Oh as I daydream of our walks in the garden
you would take my hand and hug me on the bridge
beneath us the river would flow as quickly
as the blood of love flooded our young hearts

And this is how I remember you
in my eyes on Christmas morning
Was it only 2 years ago, my love?
As a tear trickled down, a tear of joy
I awoke to find your love consume me
as you draped me all in shining white
I keep this moment in my mind
I hold this memory by and by

But that winter melted into spring
and our love dissolved with the snow
We moved on and found new lovers
But when silence becomes too much
I look out at that eve's sky and stare
seeing a star just for you up there.
I wonder if you forgot...for I could not.

Oh and I miss you once again, my love
So I softly whisper, Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas, my old winter love.
But I will not dwell to have you again.

And this is how I remember you
in my eyes on Christmas morning
Was it only 2 years ago, my love?
As a tear trickled down, a tear of joy
I awoke to find your love consume me
as you draped me all in shining white
I keep this moment in my mind
I hold this memory by and by.

Dedicated to.., well, it does not matter now.
