Poultry are People too

by Blackthistle   Dec 19, 2006

With head lifted high,
It stalks its prey
Its feathery feet
Its tasty meat
With bright eyed glory
It brings down the knife
Removing all dignity,
Live or dead.
The others of its kind,
They squawk and talk
They peck and prumble
They murmur and mumble
And they decide.
They shed their fears
And march forth
Their clackering claws,
Their ready glances
They are prepared for battle.
Their wings spread,
Like the horses ridden by us,
Their beaks wide,
Like the knives we brandish.
Forth they come,
They tear our walls,
The reduce our halls,
They cause our falls.
They fight for their comrades,
Fallen for feasts,
Ravaged by beasts,
From Wests and Easts.
Our poultry lords stand tall
They announce to us all,
"Brave soldiers were lost,
In a war unjust.
And through all this trouble,
It is a must,
Understand us,
For Poultry are People too."
