The World Today

by Laura   Dec 19, 2006

Copying down the class notes,
the teacher begins to talk,
Back in the 1800's,
there were things called freedom walks.
how the whites acted wrong,
& beat those with different skin,
apparently we hit a break through,
but really, we're just like them.
race isn't the only problem,
labels contaminate the air,
society puts a mask on you,
to pretend that you're not there.
the government silences you,
if they feel you're in the way,
& with all honesty,
we can never let go of yesterday.
fists are flying high,
& tensions at their peaks,
we say we're doing something about it,
but it gets worse every week.
we can't seem to accept the difference,
as we look each other in the eye,
trying to find a problem with them,
unable to see that their hurting inside.
why can't we look past appearance,
why don't we let ourselves see,
its common knowledge if you prick someone,
no matter what, they'll bleed.
i guess the problem with the world today,
isn't really the drugs or the sex,
but the people in this society,
that caused all of this mess.
maybe it's in our blood,
to judge, stereotype and lie,
i just hope that one day,
this generations outlook will die.
deep down we really love each other,
its just breaking through the stone,
one day we will realize that,
we never had to do this alone.
