There Were Two

by adie   Dec 21, 2006

They whispered hushed conversations
As they quietly voiced their temptations
The simplest wink or nod could say it all
It was a subtle code adults would not recall

Sitting on the couches with no one around
Talking of a pact to which they were bound
Their minds filled with the sadness and fear
It was their constant wish to one day disappear

And there was no one to talk with that day
They were all busy and the two weren't okay
She was about to flip and he was half way there
It was the last day they thought they could bear

But the pact helped them to keep living on
'Cause they couldn't cope if the other were gone
Both understood what they would have to do
Together they knew they could push through

One morning they came to school and found out
They were in trouble but didn't know what about
They'd gotten a punishment they didn't suspect
For a miscommunication the school didn't respect

On that day they'd woken up more depressed
It was so bad the other wouldn't have guessed
The consequence only helped add to the stress
It caused them a feeling of complete distress

Her therapist wouldn't meet so she made her wait
The girl wanted to talk before it'd be too late
So many things were racing through her mind
There weren't any distractions that she could find

She was going crazy while sitting on her own
It was far worse than her therapist had known
Sure it was clear that she was on the verge
But she'd kept herself safe during every urge

She was considered safe after their conversation
But with him it had been a different realization
They let her go home in the usual way
But for him it wasn't like any other day

The next day she needed someone who\'d relate
So she sat on the couch and began to wait
He\'d been sent to the hospital and she hadn\'t known
When she found out the she felt so alone

And although she couldn\'t stop crying
Even without him she kept on trying
She continued to follow through with their pact
She would keep herself safe and that was a fact

He got evaluated and took their suggestions
He did his part by answering their questions
He was doing well according to his letter
So she clutched onto hope and one day got better
