I lay awake every night,
dreading going to sleep.
Cause when I do the nightmares will come,
and then I'll start to weep.

Thinking of what\'s to come,
my breath get's shorter.
Panic envelopes around me,
and my eyes start to water.

But I can't stay awake forever,
so soon will I close my eyes.
When this happens the nightmares will come,
and the pillow will stiffle my cries.

I'm asleep in my bed now,
but awake in my dreams.
This time I'm in a ship, drowning,
and I can hear my friends screams.

My nightmare changes,
and I want to wake.
Cause when I do the nightmares will leave,
and I'll no longer be burning at the stake.

Then I'm getting chased,
and everyone I love is dead.
The blood is soaked into the ground,
and I re-hear every mean word you've said.

I'm down on the ground crying now,
cause I've just had an abortion.
The nightmares always come,
and put my fears into distortion.

I'm high up in the sky,
just slipped and have started falling.
Broken bones protuding from my skin,
and I try to escape by crawling.

I wake up, heart pounding,
trying to stiffle a scream, but I've still started to cry.
And then I realise the nightmare is over,
and I release a grateful sigh.
