Lovers' Lifetime

by Navy Blue Heart   Dec 23, 2006

Couples that are happy can stay together.
Couples that are in love can't stay apart.
Something starts in the first conversation
And the first gentle brushing of the lips
And from then on can last a lifetime.
A bending of the knee and an acceptance.
A sombre, blissful walk down an aisle.
White, sterile walls painted forever with words and scenes
Ending in a tiny face, tiny fingers and tiny fists.
Pressures sit heavy from time to time
But they always pass.
Some never spend a night apart. Each evening a repeat of the one before
Whilst the moon in starry skies begins to shine
And the clock on the mantelpiece ticks away the time,

This is supposed to be a sonnet but I'm not sure how it'll turn out when I upload it. I wrote this for my friend Emily who I love dearly and who is currently in one of the most loving relationships I've ever known. I wish her all the best and hope she realises how special she is :)
