A Date With Death

by Brittany   Dec 24, 2006

Day faded into night as I lay upon my bed.
Bitter thoughts of suicide running through my head.
I thought that I'd been beaten I couldn't take it anymore.
Then my thoughts were interrupted
by a knock outside my door.
I opened up my eyes and saw a figure dressed in black.
He smiled at me kindly as he pushed his dark hood back.
He said, "Hello my darling, sorry I am late.
I know that it's short notice, but I think we have a date."
I told him, "I've been waiting, I've dreamt of you before.
And here you are knocking, upon my bedroom door."
He said, "I hate surprises. A single knock will do.
But forget that for a moment. Tell me about you."
I told him of my sorrow. I spoke about my tears.
I talked about my misery, and whispered all my fears.
He took me in his arms and said, "Darling just forget.
There's no need to remember now. Nothing to regret."
I knew my life was slipping. I was taking my last breath.
And with it I spoke four small words: "Thanks for coming Death."

I love this poem, you left it simple, yet with stunning imagery. It's a creative twist on suicide poems, I honestly was a little worried about you trying to hard when I first decided to read it, but those thoughts dissapeared. It's amazing
