Deep in the shadows,
Behind what you see,
If you drew back the curtain,
You wouldn't know it was me,
Still the same teary eyed girl,
And yet her life,
Has already unfurled,
She is older than me,
With long wispy hair,
She refuses to be,
Like the other girls out there,
She refuses to grace a smile,
Just because she has to,
She refuses to run a mile,
For the man that might pass her.
Deep in the shadows,
Behind what you see,
You'd never understand,
What it's like to be me,
You'd compare me to your life,
And say I must be fine,
But I'm a bit more sensitive,
Somewhere deep inside,
I can't pretend I'm happy,
When I know I'm not,
And I can't just sit there,
Taking the lot,
I will always defend myself,
If someone tries to get a reaction,
If someone tries to mess up my health.
