She smiles sadly

by Tiffany   Dec 25, 2006

She smiles sadly when people ask
it isn't easy to hide behind a mask
no amount of words could begin to say
the pain she goes home to everyday
when he's drunk, he leaves bruise on her face
when he's sober, he complains of her disgrace
she always wonders what she did wrong
the days go by fast, but the nights drag on
she screams and cries; the tears begin to fall
a slap across the face, another bruise, but that's not all
he grabs a bat, the one which she used to play
he beats her and hopes she won't live another day
with one last gasp she cries "daddy no"
he ends her life with one last blow
the police come and find her on the floor
five years old, and not a day more
the poor young girl, it was her birthday
yet she lies there lifeless, with nothing to say
the funeral is held, as people mourn
the death of a girl, killed on the day she was born
beloved daughter the headstone reads
she smiles sadly, but inside she bleeds
