Starving for perfection [anorexia]

by waking up inside   Dec 31, 2006

Friends say they fear for her life
they look at her sadly as they try not to cry.

Only they could see what she tried not to show.
She didn't want to hurt them, but she didn't want them to know

she told them she was on a diet and was going to be strong
But the diet turned to competition and they knew it was wrong.

A few kept on starving and others gave up quick
the other girls were dizzy, tired and feeling really sick

She was feeling light as a feather like she could walk on air
one day she took a shower and saw that she was losing her hair.

But this didnt stop her she wouldnt give up she wouldnt retreat
all her friends told her it was stupid that theyd tell if she didnt eat.

she wanted to put on a size zero and have it fall off her hips
It had been months since food had touched her lips

just the thought of food made her feel ill
as she collapsed time stood still

Oh god help her one girl cried.
Starving for perfection the young girl had died.

Wow, I love this poem. I have been struggling with anorexia for a little while now and I can relate to this poem. I just hope I don't go as far as that girl did. Keep up the great writing.
