A broken heart is everything,
When there's nothing left to break.
A single word gently spoken,
Leaves desolation in it's wake.

A long goodbye is longer still.
When it's final and complete.
The softest kiss upon my lips.
Never bitter, but always sweet.

A memory that fills the soul,
And brings life where none has been.
A true love that had to go,
For sacrifices seldom seen.

In all the battles that we fought,
And victories that were shared.
With friends of his that became mine.
People for whom I cared.

And if I was to question all,
To ponder what was lost,
I know I should want to return,
For I cannot meet the cost.
