Just Wanted To Tell You Mommy

by Chelsey   Jan 1, 2007

Being a parent changes everything
Your emotions, your life, your style
But the amount of love you have for them
Will outstretch any number of miles

If I could go back to when my boy was young
I'd change a thousand of my days
I'd change my attitude
And I'd change some of my ways

One day when the menstrual cramps were too much
I told my boy to get out of my face
He said sadly, "Just wanted to tell you mommy,
I won my pre-school running race"

One day when I was taking a nap
And I was mad when he woke me up
He frowned and said, "Just wanted to tell you mom
I won the 1st grade soccer cup"

When he tracked in mud on my carpet
And I screamed at him to get in the shower
He said, "I'm sorry mommy,
But I just wanted to pick you these flowers"

After a long hard day at work
I told my son to get away from me
He said, "Just thought I'd tell you mom
I won the third grade spelling bee"

I'll never forget when he was in 6th grade
One day I just lost my cool
He said, "Just wanted to tell you mama
I prayed for you in Sunday School"

Now my boy is 34
With two kids of his own
Like me he always blows them off
And have missed how they have grown

"You tend to be like who you live with"
A lot of people think that's true
Please don't be a neglectful parent like me
Your child might end up like you

    This poem was absolutely amazing.
There's so much emotion in every word.
    I love it.
And the lesson inside of it is extremely valuable.

    5/5 from me.
    Great work. :]
