The mask I wear

by Juli   Jan 1, 2007

The smile I wear is a mask
For being happy is truly a task

Memories once filled with laughter
Have closed, now just a chapter

Darkness & despair shadow me
Larger than that old forest tree

Parents that are loveless
Have left my thoughts but a mess

No longer do I grasp
For the joys I did once clasp

My head once high in the air
Now to feel without a care

Inside, the pain & sadness just swell
Outside, my smile won't tell

High on life I used to be
Until it's all caught up to me

As time goes on, I always ask
How much longer can I wear this mask?

The truth is, we only hide because we want to be found.
we only walk away because we want to see who will
follow us. and we only break our hearts to see who will
    mend them
