A Girl Named Jamie-Lee

by Lu   Jan 1, 2007

In a small town not so far away
just down the winding road a bit
lived a sad and lonely little girl
at the window she would sit

Watching as the cars drove by
no one seemed to see her there
as snow covered the winter ground
she hugged her tattered teddy bear

A sour putrid stench filled the room
stale perfume and a cheap bottle of wine
there would be no turkey dinner this year
nor the smell of Christmas pine

She held on to thoughts of Santa
that he would ride his magical sleigh tonight
for it was only hopes and dreams
she held on to, with each passing night

As she looked up to the darkened sky
tears fell from her young weary eyes
nodding off into a tear stained slumber
a knock at the door woke her with surprise

Fixing her dirty, worn Sunday dress
as she slowly opened up the door
there sat five beautiful wrapped presents
and a doll, he knew she would adore

She opened the box of chocolates
wondering how they would taste
savoring each sweet delicious bite
not a morsel would she waste

He watched her from his car window
as her face brightened pink with delight
spirit of St.Nick shone through this old man
bringing a smile to a child on X-mas Eve night

As he drove on slowly down the road
Silent Night playing softly on his CD
peace and happiness touched his heart
by a smile from a girl named Jamie-Lee

Author's note : Santa comes in many shapes and forms.
A small present, a hug, and even a kind word to those less fortunate or a child who lives in the arms of poverty or abuse is what makes the spirit of Santa Claus live on.

I'm mad that I am super late reading this...whats wrong with me and where have I been...my apologies!

I LOVED THIS POEM!!!!!.....it reminded me of me actually...not Jamie but Santa..every year my church does this thing called the Noel project and we put on shows and give toys and food to the less fortunate..its always a blast and more rewarding for me just to see the little boys and girls smile when I give them toys.....Sometimes the world seems hopeless but there are people who cared like this Santa guy in your poem...excellent write!!!

It is in the story and making people who are less fortunate happy.
