Things often don't make sense; accept that

by Hippogriff   Jan 2, 2007

All you said was: \"So, what\'s all that about then?\" Suddenly you\'re faced with a myriad of faces staring intently at you, inquisitive, piercing, searching. Quietness descends and you realise that the rest of the room has somehow been darkened. There is a bright piercing light shining down on you and you are the centre of everyone\'s attention. What do you do? What do you say? You asked the question, surely someone should be providing you with some kind of answer? Surely everyone around the table should not be looking at you as though you are noisy, unruly, disruptive, unbalanced and stupid? Surely, because of the fact that you decided to ask the question you should be looked upon with an element of professional respect? So why then do you feel that you are centre stage on an episode of \"Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?\"? Where is that Chris Tarrant chappie? Is it the person that you just can\'t seem to make out because of the bright light that is shining on you? He\'s not asking you if you\'re sure. He\'s not telling you that you don\'t have to take the question. He\'s not saying a single word to you. The audience is also extremely quiet. Have they all left? Have they all become bored? Have they all died? Is there only you left in the room? All of the above thoughts go through your mind in less than a tenth of a nanosecond before you finally say: \"I mean, can you explain to me how SSL will be used in the current internal environment?\" and immediately formal gathering harmony is returned once again. People shuffle paper, some lean back in their chairs, hands are rested on chins, noses are scratched and a general hubâ??bub of silentâ??noise returns to the meeting table. The person who was asked the question takes a calming breath and starts to talk to you.... once again you find that all is well in the four hour meeting from hell.
