Twisted Soul

As I lay here silently upon my bed
Thoughts are racing through my mind
Tears are streaming down my face
How did I fall so far behind?

My whole life is falling apart
Broken promises and shattered dreams
I'm now the cat that got trod on
Not the one who got the cream.

I close my eyes in wretched despair
As I think about things that are wrong
No one listened to my plea
When I asked to be emotionally strong.

Tears are falling thick and fast
Mascara forming clumps in my eyes
I take a shuddering breath
And silence my unheard cries.

I stare silently into space
Wishing that I was whole
Instead I live an empty life
With an empty and twisted soul.
