Shadows

by S R P   Jan 4, 2007

The sun falls and the shadows rise
giving a lesson that is meant to be heard
far beyond the rushing tides
drifting away from the clouded skies..

The darkness casts a weary view
you know not where to go
or who to turn to.
Is it worth it?

A single word to brighten the day
a single thought takes it away.
The joy quickly diminished
the weariness sets in until all else falls.
Who will hear your worn-out calls?

I wanted to help
I wanted to understand.

Second chance happens no more
not when you've taken it so long
I saved you once
my arms to pull you are not so strong.

My strength is weary
I can't pull you up
my shoulders have crumbled
It's over..

I wanted to help
I wanted to understand
I watched you fall

I can no longer pretend that I'm not guilty
I helped you fall apart
I rot inside thinking..
Darkness has descended.

This poem was inspired by the words of Daniel Victor (Neverending White Lights)
