I don't know if you actually cut yourself, but from experience and reading, its more of a mental thing. The way you describe it, it seems as though its just a physical way to rebel, when in fact its not a ritual its triggered by emotional pain but not as simple as "makes all the pain go away". I think this poem has great potenial if you revise it a bit and add some metaphic qualities and such.
