You must have known, that this was good-bye.

by Jane Lowe   Jan 5, 2007

"And you must know, as I kiss your sleeping lips, that this is good-bye."

A lonely tear and a sad good-bye
was what she had to give
A secret wish of something to come
even though she couldn't live

He sang her song deep in his throat
and heard her quiet leave
he tried to forget the feeling
but others saw him grieve

She closed the door and lingered at the stairs
whispered his name with a cry
turned her back to walk away
this was the worst good-bye

He tossed and turned but couldn't sleep
stared at the door, firmly shut
called out her name
wishing for some luck

She knew he laid there
wishing she'd come back
took a wrong turn
lost time and track

He called out her name in the rain
he followed his heart
he couldn't live without her
wouldn't let this start

She thought she was right on track
when she turned the next corner
she had no time to think
before it landed upon her

He found her later
as the sun came up
screamed out her name
he really was out of luck

He held her body close
she cried into her hair
his heart broke into a million pieces
to more her he didn't dare

He looked into her eyes
and though he saw them smile
she opened her lips
her whisper could be heard for a mile:

"You must have known, as i kissed your sleeping lips, that it was good-bye"

He cried and yearned
for her to be alive
he forgot her secret promise
and then he took the dive

Newspapers the next day
declared their ever dying love
said a couple had moved on
and were now souring above.

"You must have known, as we kissed your sleeping lips, that this was going to be good-bye."
