All we Have is Eachother

by Leah   Jan 6, 2007

He had hit rock bottem
forced to starve out on the lonely street
with little money, and nothing on his feet.

He had hit rock bottem
his body was so cold from lack of heat
and he was sore from sleeping on concrete.

The scraps on his back were meant to be clothes
but they truly were disapointing dirty, ripped rags
his body had not been washed in weeks
and under his glossy eyes sat sad burdened bags

But down the road he was blessed with a shed
and sometimes they tossed out tiny bits of bread
he was so empty that there was nothing left to cry
and he was scared that if he didn't eat he'd soon die.

He was only thirteen this year and didn't know
he had no one to love him, and no where to go
he had nothing to eat, and only what was on his back
when his mother had left with bruises and eyes so black

He curled up in a ball and slept
but soon his rage took the best of him
he was starving, and getting really thin

A girl about his age skipped by
seen him sitting in gravel so sandy
asked him where he'd come from
and offered him a bit of her candy

She brought him food everyday
she didn't have any demands
even one day she brought him a cloth
so that he would be able to wash his hands.

eventually he grew up
having survived by her honest giving
he loved her more then she knew
she was the reason he was living

And one day he said thanks
but now he really had to leave
and she looked at him blankly
and said " Don't you love me?"

And he stared into her eyes
saying "Of course but I have nothing to give you"
she started crying because she knew this was untrue.

Haven't you realized
I'll be here through thick or thin
I love you for what you have within.

When we met
I was on the verge of suicide
and you were able to save
whatever I had left inside

I will love you for richer or poor
I will love you in health and sickness
in debt or even in success

And if we have no money
I'd rather be with you and dead
I'd rather be able to touch you
and still be living in just a shed.

I will be with you
as long as I have your bliss
even if we are poor as hell
and all we have is eachother's kiss.

I think I'd have liked to have heard more about why she was on the verge of suicide.. or not so much why, but about how he had saved her as much as she had saved him.. I felt that it built up to that, but then dissipated.. although the whole poem, and the concept of it, is beautiful. You have a wonderful heart, to understand how to portray the pain that you did.. Very well done, hunny. xx
