Falling Short

by Dacey Flame   Jan 6, 2007

She's falling of expectations
Even of her own,
No one knows her limitations;
Abilities unknown.

Masking effort for public eyes,
Shaking off the panic.
Perfect is the perfect disguise,
Shushing up the manic.

Tread carefully on cloud,
For you easily fall through.
The audience is wowed,
When they see what you can do.

But then you disappoint again,
Just as their building hope.
Recounting if your really sane,
Your pride has hit a slope.

Her confidence is none,
And shes made a realization;
Just simply can't reach number one,
She's falling short of expectations.

    You left a request on my free comments post, and despite me asking for non cliche poems this is one of the few that isn't cliche so far. I fear I'm getting a bit blunt with the cliche writers...it's naughty I know, but my nerves can't take much more.

    Anyway, this was very well written.
    The flow and rhymes were good and you used an original choice of words.
    It's sad, but I could relate. My dad is so smart and he wants me to be the same, but I'm not...so falling short of expectations is something I do regular.
    I have one suggestion...I think on the third line of the fourth stanza you meant "you're."
    Thanks for sharing.
