There was a time when all was sad
When the birds lost their gift of song
And the flowers never bloomed.
A time when children were solemn
Their gaunt faces ever so serious.
Where did the laughter go?
The sounds of merrymaking,
Boisterous partying?
When the men were loud and the women witty.
Where did they all go?
Did the bitterness of winter chase happiness away
Or does the malice lie deep down in the bowels of humanity?
