The Grocery List

With list in hand, I hit the door
Grab the cart, skid cross the floor
I've only thirty minutes to do it
I hope with list I can get thru it.

I find the deli, its right here I see
Ham, Cheese, Bologna, and roast beef
In the cart and off the list I've read
The produce section straight ahead

Lettuce, onions, cabbage, tomatoes.
Oranges, apples, and potatoes
All now marked off the list I read
Now on to canned goods, I must flee.

Green beans, corn, carrots, peas
Oh hell, I forgot the celery
Back to the produce I must go
I'm running now, I can't move slow.

I grab the celery as I whiz by
On my way to the dairy aisle
Grab the butter, grab the eggs
Milk goes in, Oh, my legs.

Almost done, I head for the meats
Hamburger, hot dogs, steak, I see,
Bread... I got it, Not much more
Coffee? On the other side of the store.

I'm running now, I've lost some time
One trip, two trips, I'm far behind.
With coffee now tucked into
The cart, I see, I'm finally through.

To the checkout I move fast
Five in line, and I'm the last
But pay the money at my turn
Head for the door, with great concern

Where are my keys, Oh dear, Oh dear
In my purse, they were right here.
I pour the contents on the ground
As they scatter, I look around.

Lipstick, wallet, bills and pens
Three letters that I have to send
Cell phone, lighter, cigarettes
but the keys I just can't get.

Then I spy them in the car
Thank the lord, the door's ajar
I load the groceries in the back
Load up my purse, with grace, I lack.

Into the car, and in the seat
My trip is now complete
But I just sit there, am I alive
Yes, but much too tired, now, to drive
