A 60s Go -Go

by Cherise   Jan 16, 2007

Come on, load on the hair spray!
Take another pill
Go dance in that clear plastic box
which you have been put in against your will.

Let the groovy music take you over
It's just another one of many trips
Just another tab of acid
in your drink they have slipped.

Don't worry about a way home.
Because you rarely go to bed alone
Don't be scared, don't be shy.
Because your body makes them wonder why.

Shake your hips, shake your hair
The sound is coming everywhere.
from the people, from the street, From the rhythm, from the beat.
in your veins it has seeped.

But now the trip has ended.
take out the flowers from your hair.
Look and see that all the things you saw are gone.
They were never even there!

Yes you feel lonely, and yes you feel sad
But as you have learned before
For you, no one feels bad.
So back on the streets you are thrown
Back to your one room apartment, but tonight alone.

You gaze at your reflection
and see that you have changed
You used to have so much
Always on top of your game.

You had Freedom
You had Friends
You had faith to the very end
You had places you wanted to go
You had RESPECT

where did it go?

i have never heard a poem
    quite like this before

i love how it starts out as a 60's go-go dancer
    on acid
and then you end it by her realizing all that shes lost

Ah!! For a second there I thought you were trying to control my mind. Well, this was a very good effect in this poem, you wrote to the audience, rather than for them. That was really creative.

Interesting idea, concept and presentation. I did like it though. :) It flowed well, and had pretty good imagery too. Nice job on this piece. *5/5
