Can Fish get Thirsty?

by Bridget   Jan 16, 2007

If you were asked if fish get thirsty,
your first thought would probably be no.
How could they when they are surrounded by water?
Fish getting thirsty just couldn't be so.

But stop for a moment, and think again,
and think about where fish belong.
Fish live in salt water, I'm sure that is true,
and that makes us thirsty, I know I'm not wrong.

Have you ever looked closely at a fish,
and seen it's mouth opening and closing?
How could the salt water not get in there,
and make that poor fish more thirsty.

And what about it's gills,
I'm sure the water goes in there too.
I mean how could it not with them flapping about,
what else could that salt water do?

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for fish,
They have no access to lovely, fresh water.
Can fish die of dehydration or salt poisoning?
Oh please lord, give them something to live for!

So I think I've come to a conclusion.
I definitely think fish can get thirsty.
I'm no genius, and I could be wrong,
But be thankful we don't live in the sea!
