Bright Eyes.

by Ironic Allure   Jan 18, 2007

The sand has covered my toes beneath,
they're sinking fast into concrete,
it shouldn't be too long before i forget this,
along with everything i ever wanted to remember.
whether these words are enough or not,
this is truth and that's all i've got,
there's a curious girl underneath the glass,
and she was born ready to balance the world.
tonight i want to go slow; dance with you,
a million miles higher than the city below.
these memories are tasting like rain,
but the blame and the acid could choke.
the shadows are much edgier,
than the breath inside my throat.
if these words were all that mattered,
i'd have a plan to spit them in your face,
but i'll make my point by having nothing to say.
everything twitches between cardboard cities,
the skyline collides and the buildings melt,
i'm not a part of these rusty pavements.
the center of this town is tangled in ropes,
where a heroes batteries have run dry of hope.
the moon could powder and the stars combust,
we've got layers of technology to define our fate.
everything's replaceable, it's all synthetic,
let the world spend its time collapsing.
i'll sit and watch the ocean get eaten by concrete,
wait for message to fall at the bottom of my feet,
that says i'll never really know enough.
and why the dust in my lungs is collecting,
how this curious girl, underneath the glass
lost her hold on the weight of the world.
a million miles higher than the city street lamps,
i hear suspended sins,
losing their taste for the modern things.
the traffic is grumbling and everybody knows,
they're minimal.

Hmm. I expected something totally different when I read the title, but wow did this ever take my breath away. You have a great talent, and this is just your first poem that I have read, but I plan on reading more. =)

    I hadn't read this one.
I'm very fond of it, actually.
