The Absence of Color

by :Staci:::..   Jan 19, 2007

/\,~White isn't really a color at all,
or so artists will say.
White is the absence of colors instead.
But I find the absence of color means "dead".

For White is in the snow
that blankets the ground.
And White is in the eyes
of every little boy and girl.

White is on the paper
before the artist paints.
And White is on the petals
of the flowers in the fields.

So to assume that White
is the absence of colors,
You might say snow and eyes and paper and petals
are nothing at all but the absence of something better.

And I Disagree.

If you are without color
in your mind and in your soul,
You aren't White like a flower
or the white in the eyes of your lover.

You Are Gone.
Like it's all been washed away.
And the night you lie in your bed
and the colors are all gone,
I'll send in a doctor
to declare you dead.

White is in the light
that shines down on me.
And White is in the clouds
in the shapes of animals we see.

White is in the hair of the wisest of elders.
And White is in the world,
whether real or in our dreams.

And if we ever lose it,
the White in you and me,
you can say good bye
to everything you see.

Goodbye goodbye lightness,
Goodbye to my life.
Hello Hello darkness
and the Real absence of White.

    White is my favorite color!
So I liked this poem. I thought it was very...perseptive, for lack of a better word.
