I Am A Woman Of Color

by SoulSymplicity   Jan 20, 2007

Do you hear my crying plea?
Do you feel the teardrops from these eyes?
The pain that lies in my soul?
Can you hear the cracking noises of my heart
As it slowly shatters like a broken glass?
Here I am laying on my dying bed
Unable to exalt my body.
How am I able to prove my self when there is still
One individual that cannot look passed that
I am a woman of color.

Listen listen…
Do you hear the growling from my stomach?
Am I not good enough to eat the foods that
You eat on your plate?
What makes you so different from me?
You live in the same world as I do
Breath the same air as I do
Wear the same clothing as I do
I work twice as hard as you
Yet you still stand here looking down on me
Like I am beneath you all because
I am a woman of color.

Wait wait…
Do you even understand these words?
Do you know how it feels to be discriminated?
Working your way through the crowd
Yet they still continue to walk past you.
Can you feel the agony that I feel?
Wanting to shout out, yell out and say
“Look at me for I am a human being!”
I’m not asking too much but for a little understanding.
Yet you continue to look down on me all because
I am a woman of color.
