I Cannot Compete

by TerryF   Jan 21, 2007

At times life's a bit confusing,
Which way to turn is not clear.
To the right uncertainty,
To the left heartache,
A wrong decision is what you fear.

Guidance from friends and family,
Is not always what you want to hear.
So you turn to logic,
So you turn to your heart,
To make this emotional confusion clear.

Your head is telling you to be careful,
That this guy might not be right for you.
His friends, his job,
His family, his mannerisms,
Send impulses that might not be true

So you get down on your knees,
And ask God our Father for advice.
You ask Him to show you His decision for you,
For His answer,
You'd gladly pay any price!

However, you know it's not that easy,
For although God knows the way,
He's not simply going to tell you
What to do.
Regardless of the amount you'd pay.

So you turn to His word and his teachings,
To assist you in making sense of this mess.
You have a vision,
You have this image,
Of what your perfect match should possess.

You look and look, but you've yet to find him,
Every one you compare falls short,
Of the characteristics of what this fictional,
Lover-to-be
Is supposed to posses or purport.

Perhaps it's your youth and inexperience,
That keeps you searching for the perfect mate.
You feel that if you search,
If you look just a little longer,
He'll appear and seal you fate.

When Jesus confronted the crowd,
that wanted to stone Mary Magdalene,
He asked all who were without sin,
To kindly step forward,
Well no one could be seen.

I feel the man of your dreams is Jesus Christ,
Against him I cannot compete.
But if you're looking for some that will love you,
Honor you, and be your best friend,
I know I've got all others beat!
